A musical and visual ensemble of students in grades 9–12. Students who play a band instrument take a scheduled class during the school day that earns credit toward graduation; color guard members perform alongside them, representing the music visually. We march, we play, we perform — and we have a great time making friends along the way.
Through the school year the band performs at home football games, community events like the Apple Harvest Festival parade, and USBands competitions across Connecticut — culminating in the State Championships (Veterans Memorial Stadium) and National Championships (MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford NJ). Every parent automatically becomes part of the Southington Band Backers, with a monthly meeting covering finances, fundraisers, and what’s coming up.

When your child joined the band, they signed you up to support them! All parents are automatically part of the Band Backers. We hold at least one monthly meeting covering finances, fundraisers, and upcoming events. On Music of the Knight day, every parent or guardian is expected to donate their time — it takes all of us to host the area’s largest show.
USBands assigns the State Championship site each season, so check Key Dates for the current year. In 2026 the Open Class State Championships are at Naugatuck High School (October 31). The National Championships are at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ (November 7).
